ESPN: The Weekend Recap

Last weekend, I decided to take my “talents” from South Beach up to Orlando for ESPN: The Weekend.  ESPN: The Weekend is a unique event held Walt Disney’s Hollywood Studios featuring top athletes, ESPN personalities, interactive sports zone, live ESPN telecasts and more!

As a member of the Walt Disney Company family, ESPN: The Weekend upheld the stellar reputation of its parent company through its organization and focus on family fun. It took place at Disney’s Hollywood Studios with stages and ESPN decorations set up throughout the park. I went to the event on Friday and was impressed by its organization.  All the programs that were scheduled began on time and were very easily accessible by all visitors. The park was fully operational with the usual rides and attractions. This came in handy for the times between shows or when an athlete that I didn’t particularly care for was being interviewed.

I began my day at the main stage located in the center of the park, where NFL players and legends Larry Fitzgerald and Tony Dorsett were being interviewed by an ESPN SportsCenter reporter.

The crowed was allowed to ask the athletes questions at the end of the show which was pretty cool. After this, I rode a few of the rides around the park, like the Rock ‘n’ Roller coaster which was pretty intense.  Another show I had the opportunity to attend was Stump the Schwab, a trivia show that was contested by NFL stars Ladanian Tomlinson, Brandon Jacobs, and DeAngelo Williams.  Each of the athletes was paired up with a football fan to answer the trivia questions. DeAngelo Williams, of the Carolina Panthers, and his partner won the contest and the fan was gifted a $100 gift card to Dick’s Sporting Goods. I enjoyed this more than the outdoor  interviews because it was more up-close and personal with the players. I got the opportunity to meet them and “The Schwab,” an ESPN Reporter/Sports History Trivia Genius.

I left shortly after the show, but I would definitely rate my visit as one to remember. It was something I would surely consider going to for years to come, and I would recommend it to any sports fan.

Next event up on the itinerary – Wanderlust: South Beach on March 19th @ The Standard Hotel in the beautiful Miami Beach 8-)
